This beautiful ride

And you can’t beat

The View.

Riding an ATV up Quill Hill in Rangeley, Maine is one of our favorite things to do in the lakes region. It’s an adventure that blends rugged fun with breathtaking reward. The ride begins on winding trails that climb steadily through the western Maine wilderness. Along the way, you’ll encounter a mix of terrain—hard-packed dirt paths, rocky stretches, and the occasional muddy stretches that promise to splash a little character onto your machine.

Quill Hill is accessible thanks to the vision of local landowner and philanthropist Wendell “Bud” Quimby. As a businessman and logger, Bud and his family loved the view and rather than keep it just for themselves they decided to carve out the road to the summit so everyone could experience the sweeping views of mountains, lakes, and forests.

As you climb higher, the forest opens up to glimpses of rolling hills and distant peaks. Reaching the summit is nothing short of spectacular. At the top of Quill Hill, you’re greeted with a 360-degree view of western Maine’s mountains, lakes, and valleys. On a clear day, you can spot Saddleback Mountain, the Rangeley Lakes, Katahdin, and even the distant White Mountains of New Hampshire. It’s also a great place to see wildlife, so keep your eyes open for eagles and moose.

It’s the perfect spot to pause, unpack a picnic lunch, and take it all in. Whether you spread out a blanket or perch on a rock with a sandwich, the fresh mountain air and panoramic view make for a meal you won’t forget. Quill Hill offers not just a ride, but an experience you’ll remember long after the engine quiets.
